Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to do away with colour coded rations cards, which were introduced to differentiate among priority category beneficiaries and others. The move comes amid criticism that the reform is discriminatory.
At present, the card holders are divided into andhyodaya (economically backward), priority, non-priority and general categories who are given yellow, pink, blue and white cards respectively. The coloured ration cards were introduced when the cards were renewed last time…
